“Helping to provide a better quality of life in the underserved community through: business development culturally focused pre-employment training and incubation” is the mission of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Empowerment Center. In order to achieve our mission, the Center proudly offers the following services:
Clients who want to start a business or grow an existing one will benefit from the services offered through the Business Information Center (BIC). The BIC offers one-to-one consulting with an experienced business counselor who will help the client that is seeking information regarding:
Business Start-up, sources of capital, marketing/sales, government procurement, accounting and bookkeeping, financial analysis and cost control, inventory control, business plan preparation, computer literacy, business liquidation and sales, technology, and human resource management.
The BIC also has a business library with sample business plans and other printed resources, computers with business software, fax machine and copiers, as well as media resources such as video tapes and CD’s to assist the experienced or budding entrepreneur.
In addition, the BIC also offers seminars and workshops throughout the year which cover a wide variety of relevant and timely topics which affect the small business owner. Please visit the Business Information Center section to learn more about our programs.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Empowerment Center is located in its own 42,000 square foot building in the heart of Worcester, Massachusetts. As part of our mission to nurture and help businesses grow, the Center offers quality affordable rental space to businesses. The businesses located in the building cover a variety of industries such as a light manufacturing firm, a coffee distributor, an accounting firm, a home health agency, a health care training school, an Information Technology firm, a satellite office for the University of Massachusetts and more.
However, not every businesses needs are the same. Therefore, the Center recognizes each business according to where they are in their business life cycle. Some businesses are more established and are not in any need of technical assistance help. Yet, some businesses are newly established and need the consultation and assistance of our Business Development program. These tenants are considered incubator tenants and given the guidance in business plan development and implementation to give them the competitive advantaged needed to become a thriving enterprise.
We also provide conference room rental for your function. Rental includes parking, security and kitchen use if needed.

At the heart of our mission is the desire to help provide people with a better quality of life. We recognize that the means to achieving a better quality of life is through education and economic opportunity. Our Job Training and Placement Program (JTPP) is innovative in its approach as it is the only program in the Worcester County area that identifies, acknowledges and creates a training methodology that is sensitive to the needs of our minority constituency.
The JTTP program at the Center not only prepares clients with specific skills sets such as our Health Industry Preparatory Program (HIPP), but we also prepare clients in job readiness skills such as resume and interview preparation, job search skills, computer literacy and more.
